Even though we only had over two weeks in school during the month of April, all classes still managed to have a very active fortnight. Firstly, all classes from juniors to sixth started gymnastics classes with Julie. They are going  extremely well. Each and every child is enjoying the lessons and learning lots of new skills. From doing hand stands to forward rolls, the children are bursting with energy and enthusiasm every Thursday. We thank St. Joseph’s College for the use of their school gym/hall. It is a fantastic venue for our P.E. lessons every week.

St. Cualan’s N.S. was a hive of activity during the first week back in school in April. As part of the schools effort to maintain the prestigious green flags which it was awarded by An Taisce, St. Cualan’s held a Spring Clean around the school environment. All classes from juniors to sixth ensured that their school was a Litter Free Zone by doing a huge tidy up. Furthermore as part of our Green School’s Work all children were asked to come up with new ideas for Green Codes for our school in relation to Litter and Waste and Energy. The quality of work was exceptional and some wonderful slogans were created. The winning codes were created by Tara in second class and Shane in fourth class. These codes will be displayed throughout the school.

It’s all about the bins, about the bins. No litter.

Preparations are in full swing for all the children who will receive their First Holy Communion on May 17th 2015. From learning prayers to choir practice to bringing up gifts every in St. Cualan’s is busy. All the children in second class are eagerly awaiting this very special and joyous occasion.

Third and fourth had their hats and aprons out again during the month of April. This month they cooked a savoury dish. Chicken a la King was on the menu . It was indeed ‘a feast fit for a King’ (even if we do say so ourselves).

Fr. Everard is still very kindly coming into the school every Tuesday to do Christian Meditation with all children in the senior school. All children thoroughly enjoy this experience and look forward to Fr. Everard visiting every week. They have learned a lot about meditation over the last number of months .

Both the girls and boys hurling and camogie teams did very well in the recent blitzes. Our school have two upcoming County Semi-Finals coming up as well as an U13 match. We wish all our teams the very best of luck in the upcoming matches.
