On Thursday 26th September, 3rd -6th Classes will travel to Thurles Crokes’ Athletics Field for the Co. Tipperary Primary Schools’ Cross-Country Championships.
The entry fee for this event is €2.00 and bus transport will cost €4 per child for pupils wishing to travel. Total Cost €6.00. Last year our pupils put in a strong performance. There is no obligation on any pupil to take part in these events and should your child not wish to participate he/she may remain in school on the day. Pupils participating are advised to bring a packed lunch and extra drinks on the day. Over the years we have found that it is also a good idea to include an energy boost such as a high-energy snack bar (e.g. Mars bar) or a banana.
Due to the fact that there are very limited facilities at the venue it is important that parents realise that children will be outdoors for most of the day. With this in mind every child should bring a strong waterproof bag in which they can store their lunch and clothes while they are competing. If the forecast is for sun it is wise to ensure they wear sun protection.
Wellies are a very often the most suitable choice of footwear on the day as the grass can be wet. Your child can change into runners/spikes, hurling boots for his/her race. Most runners wear jerseys and shorts for the actual event.
If your child does not wish to participate in this event a note must be sent into the school by Friday 13th September. We would encourage all children to participate in the cross country as everyone who completes the run is a winner.
Despite the potential for bad weather this is always an enjoyable event and we hope that this year will prove no exception.
