As we approach the Mid Term Break following a very busy weeks I would like to thank you and the children for all your assistance to date and update you on a number of events within the school.
- Cross Country Championships:
We had great success at the Co. Cross Country Championships again this year and congratulate all the pupils who took part and all who assisted in any way. There is huge participation from schools all over the county in these events and all our pupils did us proud in terms of performance, commitment and behaviour on the day. We were absolutely delighted when Chloe Carroll led the field home to claim first place in the 5th and 6th Classes 1000 m race. This is a marvellous achievement for Chloe and her Individual Gold Medal is a just reward for her talent and efforts. She was ably assisted by Aoife Fitzgerald, Alesha Fanning and Eve Maher who also ran brilliantly and combined with Chloe to bring the Team Silver Honours back to Scoil Naomh Cualán. Our boys were also to the fore with Tom Delaney claiming an Individual Bronze Medal in the 5th and 6thClasses Boys’ 100m.
Our 3rd and 4th class boys and girls were also to the fore and we were thrilled when Therese Groome, Grace Stapleton and Patrick Groome were awarded Individual Bronze Medals for their events. On a day when well over 3,500 primary school pupils participated, we were proud and delighted with the achievements of all our talented athletes.
- Cumann na mBunscol Football:
Our U11 and U13 footballers have also done us proud in their recent championships. Our Boys’ and Girls’ teams put in some brilliant performances in their qualification blitzes with our U13 Boys taking pride of place by winning the North Final in a brilliant match v Ardcroney NS. They now proceed to face Carrick on Suir in the Co. Semi-Final and we congratulate them and wish them every success. Our U11 Boys will contest their blitz in the Park today and we wish them the best of luck.
- Gymnastics and Motor Skills Programme:
Following the Mid Term Break we will commence a series of 6 weeks of Gymnastics and Motor Skills Development with Rody Kennedy Sports. This fun programme is greatly beneficial for all ages in terms of improving self-esteem and co-ordination, organisation and balance, ability to follow sequential instructions, handwriting, memory and self confidence as well as being lots of fun for everybody. The cost of this programme is €3 per child per week. We are happy to report that your generous assistance and support activities and the marvellous work by our Parents Association and volunteers will allow us to cover this cost for every child. We are very grateful to all who give of their time, assistance and resources to assist us throughout the year and delighted to use this money for the benefit of your children. The only cost which will accrue to every child for the Motor Skills programme is the cost of a tennis ball which he/she will bring home on a daily basis to practise the skills and keep when the course is completed. The tennis balls will cost €1 each which we hope, is not a prohibitive cost for anybody.
- Sale of Work:
Thursday next, October 26th is the date of our annual Sale of Work. Thanks to all parents and children who have brought in toys etc. for the event. Special thanks to our Parents’ Association for their assistance. Our school concert will take place on Wednesday and Thursday nights, December 13th and 14th this year. We will provide you with further details of the particular breakdown later but encourage parents, friends and families to keep those nights free for what are sure to be two nights of marvellous entertainment!
