Mass was celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church, Borrisoleigh on Friday, 9th November at 7:00pm to bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Butler and Mrs Ryan. Former pupils, residents of the area, clergy, community and sporting groups and teaching colleagues, family and friends joined with Mary and Kay to celebrate their teaching careers which each spanned over three decades. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Hennessy and Fr. Vincent. In his homily, Fr. Hennessy paid tribute to both teachers for their many years of service to education in the parish. The Mass was enhanced by the beautiful singing and music of the School Choir. The M.C. on the night was new principal of Scoil Naomh Cualán, Mr. Michael Small. Mr. Michael Ryan spoke on behalf of the B.O.M. and Ms. Siobhan Groome on behalf of the Parents’ Association. On behalf of the teaching staff, vice principal, Mrs. Slattery, spoke in glowing terms about the valuable contribution both teachers made in educating young people in the area over many years. Her speech was warmly greeted and followed by speeches from both Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Ryan. Gifts were presented to both ladies on behalf of the BOM and the parishioners of Borrisoleigh. All the congregation adjourned to the Community Centre and enjoyed refreshments provided by Mossy Shanahan. A very special thanks to all the parents,children, staff, clergy and parishioners who helped to make the night such a special occasion. We extend sincere congratulations to Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Ryan who have contributed so inspiringly to the education of so many young people in such a dedicated manner over many fruitful and uplifting years. We all wish them both a very Happy, Healthy and Fulfilling Retirement.
