Hello Everyone,
I hope that you are all well and enjoying the fabulous weather. We have been so lucky with the weather this year so far.
I totally understand that it must be difficult to stay focused on school work with the longer days, fabulous weather and changing routines. I have not included it in the weekly outline, but continue to read to your child. If they are struggling to engage in the activities, that is no problem, but I would encourage you to read to your child daily if possible.
Please find attached a weekly outline of activities and work for the coming week.
These are in no way obligatory, just do what you can if you can.
As we have decided as a school to scale back on the school work after this week I have asked for revision of the final group of sounds (group 7-pink) this week. I know that that diagraph, 2 letter sounds can cause difficulty for many children. But please don’t worry if they are finding them hard as there would always be lots of revision of these in Senior Infants, and that will be especially true this year.
I would love to know if you or your child are finding anything especially difficult. So please feel free to email me with any questions or queries. My email is msryansnc@gmail.com
Please send me lots of pictures of all the things that the kids are getting up to at home so I can share them with the rest of the class. They don’t have to be linked to the activities I have set.
Thanks for all your engagement over the past few weeks.
Looking forward to some more great photos, jokes and stories this week.
All the best,
Karen
Some extra suggestions for phonics practice:
Phonics pop. Choose which sounds to focus on. Then children have to listen and pop the corresponding sound. https://www.ictgames.com/phonicsPop/index.html |
Pick a picture-read the word and select the right picture. This is lovely as you can pick levels of difficulty. Phase 2-would be the simplest. You can also choose to focus on the 2 letter sounds (vowel diagraphs-ai, oa ) https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/pick-a-picture |
Odd sound out: There are 3/4 pictures on the screen (eg dog, dinosaur, van, donkey) and the children have to identify which one is different. https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/odd-sound-out?phase=2 |
Buried treasure: Read the word and decide if it is a real word (treasure) or a silly word (trash). Can play level 2 or 3 https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/3/buried-treasure |
Odd or Bob: simular idea where they have to feed real words to one alien and fake words to the other alien. https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/picnic-on-pluto |
Yes/No Yeti. Read the sentence and answer either yes or no. https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/yes-no-yeti?phase=3 |
Alien escape-this would prob be tricky for the kids. To help the alien escape they have to put the letters in the right order to make the word. https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/alien-escape?phase=3 |
Online readers: Speld Sa-phonics readers that match the sounds we have covered. I know many children don’t like reading online but this has loads of readers if you are looking for phonics readers. https://www.speld-sa.org.au/services/phonic-books.html |
